On Saturday we took a drive out to Canmore which is the gateway to the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, we drove along Hwy 40, a beautiful scenic route through the mountains where you will see LOADS of cattle and mountain sheep, the cowboys were out there too rounding the cattle up for the winter. This road closes Dec 1 to June 15 due to weather conditions and to allow the animals some peace. We have seen bears and moose along here before but not this time.
Touchstone is a 30 foot tall iconic sculpture made with stone, cast bronze and 316 stainless steel. The sculpture will represent the sweep of human presence from pre-history to contemporary times in an exciting and challenging environment.
The people in Canmore were asked to contribute artifacts that were to be cast into the bronze on the monument in order to preserve the history of the town.
The cut outs on Touchstone are of the Eagles, Raven and various birds that flourish in and around the mountains and the town.
Just two of the beautiful Owls that were on display during the unveiling.
Before the ceremony we were treated by 3Fab to a meal at Rocky Mountain Flatbread Co, Canmore this was the best Pizza I have ever had, the wine, salad's and deserts were good too!
Last but not least, is one of the owners of the company with his wife (front)
Hubby is on the right of the picture, it was Hubby that made the monument!
